SNSF Starting Grant for Aydin Yildirim's Project on "Reshoring"
EUP postdoctoral researcher Aydin B. Yildirim was awarded a Starting Grant by the SNSF for his project " Reshore: Political Economy of Firms’ Relocation Decisions in Europe". The five-year project will be funded with 1.77 million CHF and hosted at the University of St. Gallen. It seeks to develop a novel understanding of European firms’ responses to geopolitical tensions and the complex motivations behind their strategic relocation decisions in an increasingly fragmented global economy.
SNSF Ambizione Grant awarded to Dr. Jana Lipps
EUP senior researcher Jana Lipps was awarded an Ambizione Grant by SNSF for her project "Liberal tensions in border management”. The four-year project will be funded with 730’000 CHF and hosted at the Department of Political Science at the University of Zurich. The project explores how political oversight and legal accountability systems have evolved in state agencies that monitor cross-border movement — and how these changes shape the behavior of the agents working in the field.
Dr. Jana Lipps awarded the Golden Owl 2024
Dr. Jana Lipps has been honoured with this year's Golden Owl award. Presented by the student association VSETH, the Golden Owl recognises outstanding teaching and encourages continued excellence. Each year, one lecturer from each department is chosen to receive this prestigious award.
Research Unit «Reconfiguring Europe»
The European Politics research group will participate in the Research Unit “Reconfiguring Europe” directed by Markus Jachtenfuchs at the Hertie School of Governance. The consortium was approved for funding by the German (DFG) and Swiss (SNSF) research foundations. The funding is approx. EUR 6 million for four years and nine research projects. The European Politics research group participates with a project on “Reconfiguring EU external boundaries: competence and control”.
Honorary doctorate of Aalborg University for Frank Schimmelfennig
In April 2024, Aalborg University awarded an honorary doctorate in political science to Frank Schimmelfennig for his work on European integration.
