Alessia Invernizzi is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the European Politics Group at the Center for Comparative and International Studies. She contributes to the ERC-funded EUROBORD project, focusing on how crises and geopoliticization shape European boundary configurations and resources. She brings expertise in quantitative research methods and leads the data collection on boundary control resources. Alongside her work on Euroepan borders, Alessia continues her research on contemporary trade policy both globally and within the European Union. Her broader interests include sanctions, European integration, international organizations, and human rights, primarily using an international political economy framework.
Alessia will soon defend her doctoral thesis at the University of Konstanz, which investigates strategic interests in contemporary protectionism through a sectoral approach. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics and Business from the University of Milan-Bicocca and a Master's degree in Political Economy from the University of Konstanz. Alessia was a trainee at the European Commission's DG Trade, supporting the chief economist unit in their trade analysis and evaluations. During her doctoral studies, she has been a visiting researcher at UC San Diego (2024), Princeton University (2023), and Tel-Aviv University (2022). Alessia served as PhD students representative and as the Managing Editor of European Union Politics (2021-2023).
