Jana Lipps is a Senior Researcher in the European Politics Group at the Center for Comparative and International Studies. Her research explores the relationship between international governance and democratic representation, liberalism, and inequality. Her recent work investigates the challenges posed by illiberal actors to institutions of the liberal international order. She is also actively involved in the ERC-funded EUROBORD project, where she researches the processes of external and internal re-bordering in the European Union. Her work has been published in journals such as The Review of International Organizations, Political Science Research and Methods, the European Journal of International Relations, and the European Journal of Political Research. She has taught BA- and MA-level classes in international relations, comparative and European politics, and research design and methods.
Jana earned her doctoral degree from ETH Zurich in 2021 with a dissertation on regional economic divides in the European Union and their impact on trust in political institutions. She holds a Joint Master degree from ETH Zurich and University of Zurich and a Bachelor degree from Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich. She also studied at Sciences Po Toulouse. In 2022-2023, Jana has been a visiting researcher in the Borders and Boundaries Lab at Perry World House, University of Pennsylvania.
